Bitdefender Mobile Security
The Bitdefender Android security app is virtually flawless to protect against malware, high-performance impact, Android Wear clock integration, VPN client, and malicious website blocker that works with most Android browsers.
It also has strong privacy protection tools, including app lock, Wi-Fi scanner, anti-crime features, and data breach notifications. A new feature added, Scam Warning, flags may be malicious links to SMS text messages, messaging apps, and screen notifications.
Bitdefender Mobile Security offers a 14-day trial period. A separate Bitdefender Antivirus for Android application (free antivirus app) scans only the malware that is not suitable for the computer. The built-in VPN client gives you only 200MB of free data per data – just enough to check your email while on the go.
Norton Mobile Security
Norton Mobile Security, also known as Norton 360, provides excellent malware protection for any Android anti-virus applications we have tested. Unfortunately, it no longer has anti-crime functions, backup contacts, and a Link Guard malicious link block.
Norton also killed the free Norton Mobile Security category, which was the best of all the Android apps we recently tested. That has replaced the only security app on one device that costs $ 15 per year.
For $ 50 a year, a medium-sized tier called Norton 360 for Mobile adds unlimited VPN service and monitors the “dark web” of your personal information. The deadly feature of Norton is a unique App Advisor, which tests applications on your device for complex data and unusual behavior. It also screens applications in the Google Play Store to detect security and privacy risks even before you install them.
Avast Mobile Security
Avast Mobile Security & Antivirus is one of the best full-fledged Android antivirus apps, offering everything from a privacy advisor to a system builder to a customized blockchain.
But while Avast computer malware protection is good, it is far from perfect. Some of Avast’s anti-crime services did not work for us, and its telephone blocking feature did not work at all. (Since it was deleted.) And ads for free versions and nags constantly upgrading are annoying and disturbing.
Those ads end if you pay for any Avast Mobile Security, Premium ($ 2 per month or $ 20 per year), or Ultimate ($ 7 monthly or $ 40 per year) fee. Users of any paid app get additional features to fight crime, app lock, and technical support.
The built-in Avast’s SecureLine VPN client is just ridiculous, and the only way to use it is to pay for the Ultimate tier.
Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus
The free version will not automatically scan new applications
Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus, also known as Kaspersky Internet Security for Android, provides almost complete malware protection, minimal system impact, and real-time telephone protection.
There are no ads in the free version, and there is not much pressure to upgrade to a paid version. Free users get call filtering, Android Wear support, and a solid set of anti-crime functions, but you have to scan each app individually.
Paying users to get automatic scanning of new apps, app locking, and blocking of criminal websites for stealing sensitive information. And that’s about it. There is no Wi-Fi network scanner and no privacy tools offered by other Android antivirus apps right now.
Lookout Security & Antivirus
Lookout Mobile Security, now renamed Lookout Security as well as Antivirus or Personal Lookout, was one of the first anti-virus apps for Android and has long been popular. Its ease of use, clean interface, and lack of ads explain its continued popularity.
But Lookout costs can grow rapidly. The free class is bones; it automatically detects malware and detects lost phones. The premium tier costs $ 30 a year, or some of its features – malicious website blocking, Wi-Fi network scanning – appear for free with other Android antivirus apps. Unlimited VPN and data breach notification services make the premium price reasonable. At $ 100 a year, the “premium plus” program is an inexpensive ID protection service that offers many of the same benefits you can get from LifeLock or IdentityForce. It may be worth the expense.
McAfee Mobile Security
Like Avast, McAfee offers (or is used to donate) a ton of useful features, but its free antivirus app version is also packed with ads and marketing suggestions. Defending malware is good, if not worse.
In the summer of 2021, McAfee Mobile Security completed most of its most useful functions, including its app lock, visitor mode, Anti-Theft, Memory Booster, and Storage Cleaning features. It’s not clear why this was done, other than “fixing our product portfolio.”
You will find great things with the free version of McAfee Mobile Security, as a way to track the data usage of each app with a Wi-Fi security scanner. You will find more about the “Standard” premium section, which includes a URL filter, 24/7 technical support, and no ads. But it costs less than $ 30 a year considering that Bitdefender and Kaspersky offer you the same features at a lower price.
Google Play Protect
Google Play Protect a free antivirus app will be built for all Android devices running Google Play, and it would be great if it could work well. Unfortunately, the discovery of the malicious Google Play Protect malware program caused a lot of controversy over the use of a third-party Android app.
We liked that the Google Play Protect interface is small, there are no ads and the system effect is simple. Some of the built-in features of Android, including Find My Phone and Safe Browsing in Chrome, show what the third-party antivirus apps are doing on the side.
A great feature of Google Play Protect is that Google can use it to remotely disable malicious apps. This is always the case whether you use third-party antivirus software or not. We recommend that you do not experience Google Play Protect.
Sophos Intercept X for mobile
Sophos Intercept X is free antivirus app which is completely free, yet it has no ads, unlike most free apps. So while Sophos Intercept X is impressive in that regard, there is a bit of a question mark about its decision to protect the malware from the fact that the app has not been tested by major independent labs this year. That being said, it has received full marks for antivirus protection in all 2019 AV-Test reports.
Sophos scans software malware or malicious content as installed and also warns you if it may leak any sensitive information. An antivirus scanner can be configured to scan files and folders periodically, too.
Another great feature is Secure QR Code Scanner, as the name suggests that it will scan any target URL to detect potential threats when scanning a QR code, making sure you can use this safely. Intercept X also benefits from the authenticity you can use to authenticate multiple items with any app that supports Google Authenticator, and you can manage all of these 2FA accounts from this central hub.
AhnLab V3 Mobile Security
AhnLab V3 is free antivirus app from South Korean AhnLab is not as popular as the others on this list, but it still has some very high levels of malware detection for Android-based AV-Test. It protects against 100% of threats, so it ranks high with the best players.
Another strong point of this app is that it works well even on older Android devices and is usually unnecessary depending on the use of the system application. In addition, it has a built-in booster to help speed up your phone’s performance.
Other useful features include a privacy cleaner to securely erase your browsing history, as well as a privacy advisor that checks applications installed on your device, ensuring that they do not compromise any of your sensitive information.
Avira Antivirus Security
Avira Antivirus Security is another free antivirus app that gets big thumbs up from independent testing labs when it comes to the quality of its anti-virus engine. The free version is supported by ads but has several features, including the Permissions Manager which scans apps on a privacy scale to help you easily determine how relevant your data is to be trusted. The integrated Identity Safeguard feature constantly checks that your email address has been leaked to any major data breaches, informing you of the details of any leaks, which is very useful. You also get a lot of anti-crime skills that include the ability to find your phone, activate the alarm remotely, lock the remote or wipe your Android device.
The Avira App Lock is also available to protect any sensitive applications by requiring a PIN to launch them, and a new addition is that the VPN is now integrated with Avira Antivirus – although you only get a small amount of daily data.
Trend Micro Mobile Security
The Trend Micro Mobile Security app not only checks out new malware applications before they are downloaded and installed but prevents newly installed applications from accessing other applications, which may be useful for device administrators and parents.
There is also a built-in Facebook privacy scanner that warns you if your profile settings show sensitive personal information. Indeed, there are a large number of features here, including web security, anti-crime, a Wi-Fi checker to ensure that any wireless networks you connect to our secure, system tuning services, a full framework for parental controls, and Pay Guard ensures any banking online or online transactions are fully secure. In addition, both independent testing labs rated Trend Micro Mobile Security as protection against 100 threats, making it high on the tree at the time of writing. There is a lot you can like here, but the bad thing is that the asking price is very high compared to many other options on this page.
Malwarebytes security
This basic antivirus application will not prevent malware infection but does an excellent job of collecting malicious files, including adware, that already exist on your device. It does not use many resources, so you will not slow down while Malwarebytes is running. Another advantage of Malwarebytes, besides being a freeware program, is that it has no ads.
Malwarebytes detects and stops ransomware before encrypting and capturing your files and programs. It also detects phishing scams, and even emails, and will alert you before you click or provide personal information.
