On iOS:
There are two possible ways to set a wallpaper for iOS devices:
Method One:
Go to ‘Settings’ and select the ‘Wallpaper’ option
Select ‘Choose a new wallpaper.’ You will then be given the option to choose from the phone’s saved designs (power and still images), or you can select a photo from your gallery.
Select Set and then select Set lock screen, Set home screen, or Both.
Method 2:
Go to the ‘Photos’ app and select the image you want to use.
Click the share icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, then select ‘Use As Wallpaper.’
Then choose to set the image as a lock screen, home screen, or both.
If you do not have an image you want to use in your gallery, just browse the web and find the right image for you.
IOS users can also download apps from the App Store that offer a variety of screen background designs.
On Android:
Start setting your home screen by pressing and holding a blank space on your screen (i.e. where apps can be placed), and the Home screen options will appear.
Select ‘add background’ and choose whether the background image is for ‘Home Screen’, ‘Lock Screen’, or ‘Home and Lock Screen’.
Another set of options will appear where you can choose where the image you would like to use will appear: Gallery, Pictures, Live Wallpapers, or Wallpapers.
If you select an image from the gallery, you will be able to crop the image to the correct size. When you are satisfied, just click ‘Done.
WhatsApp allows you to customize conversations by changing your wallpaper. You can change the background image for all conversations, or set a background image for each conversation. You can also choose wallpapers that are black or light, and blur the background image of your dark mode.

Change the background image for all conversations
Touch More options> Settings> Conversations> Wallpaper.
Alternatively, you can open chat> press More Options> Wallpaper.
When using the black mode, you can use the slide to blur your current wallpaper.
Tap CHANGE
Select the background category, then select the image you want to set as your wallpaper.
You can also tap Default Wallpaper to restore the default WhatsApp wallpaper.
Tap Set Set Wallpaper.

Open the conversation you want to switch to the background image.

STEP 9: There is also a way to delete a custom wallpaper whenever you want, just click on the ‘Remove Custom Wallpaper’ option.
