Jamtara :Sabka Number Aayega
After several disappointments, Netflix seems to have lost the interest of the Indian audience. However, after watching this web series, we can safely assume that they are back in the game. Creators Trishant Srivastava and Nishank Verma and director Soumendra Padhi present a riveting story based on a group of boys from Jamtara running a highly lucrative phishing scam. These activities are mainly planned and implemented by two cousins - Sunny (Sparsh Shrivastav) and Rocky (Anshumaan Pushkar). While Sunny is in it for the money, Rocky’s obsession is with power. The cast of mostly fresh faces embraced their roles and managed to do a great job portraying the various characters.
This Indian web series is inspired by real events as Jamtara has turned into a sort of phishing hub in India over the years. They also depict the impact of aspiration, greed, wealth, and power on man. Jamtara stands somewhere between the universe of Anurag Kashyap and Tigmanshu Dhulia. In recent times we have seen many Indian web series try their hand at the rural gang mafia, but Jamtara is one series that does it perfectly. Director Soumendra gets full credit for creating an exciting story full of twists and turns in every episode.
Rangbaaz
20 years ago, the entire nation was shocked to learn of a meeting with a notorious criminal. But that feeling came not because of the success of the UP Police Force in finishing off the criminals, but when they came to know about the kind of life he led. Rangbaaz is a web series based on the life of the infamous criminal Shree Prakash Shukla, who was transformed into Shiv Prakash Shukla in the series. The story begins in 1992 when a naïve 20-year-old Shiv Prakash (Saqib Saleem) is revealed to be happy in his simple life. Things take a turn for the worse when the pre-Christmas teaser dares to molest his sister and ends up getting killed by Shukla. Local politician Ram Shankar Tiwari (Tigmanshu Dhulia) takes full advantage of the situation and sends Shukla to Thailand thinking he is protecting him from imminent arrest. Later, Shukla feels obliged to return the favor and starts working as Tiwari’s henchman. Once Shukla enters the world of crime, he is unstoppable. Using clever planning, he manages to keep the UP police constantly unaware of his actions. And as he gains more and more power, everything goes to his head. He begins to enjoy pumping bullets into his victims. A few shots are never enough for him as he unloads a full round of rounds into nearly lifeless bodies. Eventually, Shukla becomes too big for his shoes and goes against the people who introduced him to the underworld.
The web series does full justice to the transformation of Shukla’s character from a commoner to the most wanted man in India. A special mention goes to Saqib Saleem who delivers possibly a career-best performance with this performance. He gets into the shoes of his dead gangster character and gives a great performance.
