Some people prefer yellow light to study, but others prefer white as the best option. As always, it is a personal choice, depending on your preferences. There is also the opportunity to combine the two lights and install a different type of lighting based on the purpose of a particular room.
An important question is whether you decide to read a bright white or yellow light as some kind of lighting can irritate your eyes quickly and affect your concentration and mind. Some experts say that you should use yellow light below 3000 K at night color reading light. Let’s take a closer look at this issue.

Color Temperature
CCT (related color temperature) is a scale that indicates the level of light color. Because of this number, you can determine how much blue light in the light you are exposed to.
The range is from 1,800 K to warm light to very cold, with a very high degree of blue light, which reaches 6,500 K. Basically, there are three types of light with different temperature colors, including:
A warm 2,500 to 3,000 K light will help you relax while reading and relax better afterward.
4,900 to 6,500 K natural light is the best eye solution that allows for comfortable work.
The 6,500 K cold light provides excellent lighting quality and enhances overall attention.
Cold blue light with high CCT is the best option during working hours when you are often awake and alert. On the other hand, if you want to relax and read at night without interrupting sleep cycles, you should choose a color temperature below 3,000 K.
The difference between warm and cool light
White Light vs. Light Yellow
Research results show that most people find warm light comfortable in their eyes while reading, but complain about the level of light. I will give you a list of the different types of light you expose during the day. Keep in mind that white and blue lights are sometimes considered the same category.
Natural Light
As you already know, healthy natural sunlight can be made, no matter what lamp you use. Spending at least 10 to 20 minutes outdoors a day will stimulate Vitamin D and serotonin production, making this light very beneficial for your health.
It will improve your mood, strengthen your bones, and improve your vision. In addition, you will not be prone to depression and stress.
Yellow Light
This warm light relaxes your eyes and gives you a pleasant feeling of being in a cozy, friendly environment. Therefore, it is an excellent way to learn and complete tasks that require mental stability.
You should apply this light color to places where you often relax and study, such as your living room and bedroom.
Its main advantage is that it will not damage the production of melatonin in your body, unlike cold light. As a result, you will feel more comfortable and sleepy after installing this sleep reading lamp or headboard reading lamp. The reason is your brain connects yellow light with sunset and sees it as night time.
White Light
This type of light is considered cold, strong, and direct. It will help you to focus and concentrate well throughout the day. Therefore, it is an excellent solution for trading areas and workplaces.
You can also use it in your home, especially in the kitchen, bathroom, and office room. Since they are not resting places, cold light will help you improve your learning performance.
If white light is too strong for your eyes, you can choose yellow-white below 3,500 K. Also, you can get modern LEDs with adjustable CCT.
Note that this light can only improve your performance if exposed to central CCT. In other words, lights with higher levels of scale will make you more alert, which in turn will reduce your performance.
You may also feel tired and irritated at the end of the day as the LEDs emit harmful short-wave waves over time.
Today, you can find many types of light bulbs available in the market. Therefore, you can choose the right one for each room in your home, depending on its purpose.
Lights emit a soft white color – At 2,700 to 3,000 K, these bulbs are warm and yellow. It is the light you will find in traditional incandescent models. As it gives a warm and cozy feeling, you should use them in your living room and bedroom or as a children’s reading light.
Lights emit a warm white color – These bulbs provide a yellow-white shade in the range of 3,000 to 4,000 K. They are the best way for your kitchen and bathroom.
Lights emit a bright white color – Between 4,000 and 5,000 K, these tones give off white and blue tones. Don’t expect them to give you a cozy feeling, as this color range increases the level of energy. That makes these bulbs an ideal choice for your kitchen, home office, and garage.
Daylight-light bulbs – Light bulbs from 5,000 to 6,500 K increase color brightness. That feature equips them for everyday activities.
Smart bulbs – Very well designed! Instead of buying individual bulbs for each room, you can install them in your entire home and change the light color as you like. For example, you could install a smart lamp with a lamp or reading lamp mounted on the wall and use a light color during the day or a warm one at night.
Imagine being in a dark room unable to distinguish between blue and black pens?
The answer is “probably not” because in a dark room the “rods” do their best to identify their image and the “lumps” cannot help themselves because of their dependence on an adequate light source for their function (due to small color variations.)
So “cones” do a good job when there is enough light when there is more brightness.
And we should be aware of the fact that black and white images are very different than yellow & black images is the solution to this question.
In this case, when you use white light, due to better color comparisons your eyes easily distinguish one image from another (same name as another) is not the case if you use a deep yellow light.
Mentally our brain associates color with many things such as memories, objects of the same color, and even temperature. So when we use yellow light in our study, our brain thinks we are surrounded by heat (with even slightly higher temperatures) which in time causes fatigue and a feeling of (mental) discomfort.
So white light is much better than yellow light for reading purposes.
