Apple has launched this highly anticipated gadget this year, the iPhone 12. But this time, there are four of them. Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max at today’s “Hi, Speed” event. Top-notch local models are the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. These two models define what the 2020 line-up is all about: the fastest 5G connection and the most advanced features you can find on the iPhone so far.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max do not go very far from the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, respectively, depending on their design. But Apple’s traditional magic exists. The newer iPhone 12 Pro models have subtle designs, something similar to the finale we saw on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S. The curved edges have been removed to harvest sharp edges, which are more refined to newer models of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Let’s get into what these new versions of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max offer:
iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max Details:
- Display: The iPhone 12 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the largest 6.7-inch display using the same Super Retina XDR feature. We’ve seen this show in previous models so there are only a few updates to the iPhone 12 Pro series that you find on the screen. The note is still on the display but the bezels are small. The OLED display on iPhone 12 Pro phones has a maximum brightness of 1200 nits and supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10, and HLG.
- Processor: Apple’s A14 Bionic enables the new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12, Pro Max. The chipset is named after the world’s first 5-nanometer chipset, its small size allowed Apple to pack multiple items while maintaining power on the high-end iPhone. Apple said it has improved computer performance on the chipset. The company also claims that its latest chipset is 50 percent faster than the leading processors on Android phones. There is 5G connectivity in both iPhone 12 Pro models.
- RAM: Apple does not explicitly state the RAM capacity of the iPhone at the launch event but we speculate it will be around 4GB on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, teardown will later reveal how much RAM you get from these models.
- Storage: Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max come with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. You cannot add microSD to the iPhone model.
- Rear Cameras: The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max have a 12-megapixel F1.6 main camera, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. Apple says its big camera has the fastest hole in the iPhone so far. Apple has developed low-light images for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has the “best camera” including a new LiDAR sensor. The company comes out with the iPhone 12 Pro cameras, introducing features that no other smartphone can do today.
- Front Camera: Apple has installed a 7-megapixel FaceTime camera on the new iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple has not revealed much about this camera yet but there will be major improvements to the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max devices.
- Battery: Apple has said nothing about the battery of iPhone 12 Pro devices but we will know soon.
- Operating System: Both iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max run the latest iOS 14.
The iPhone 12 Pro brings major changes to last year’s iPhone devices. Not only Hardware but also advanced software to the point that Apple 12 Pro devices are the first to shoot, record, and edit 4K HDR10 videos with Dolby Vision right in the camera app. In addition, Apple allows photographers and content creators to do more with ProRaw which stores photos and videos in its very raw format so that there is no compromise on quality.
Apple has also doubled its coverage of the night mode iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max to offer. Apple goes a long way with Smart HDR 3, Deep Fusion, and the LiDAR sensor which provides more information about how light is reflected in the area when clicked in night mode. All of this will be available on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max separately due to minor changes in camera configuration.
The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max also come with magnetic rings on the back that will allow MagSafe’s new accessories to work. There is a new MagSafe Duo Charger and Leather Sleeve that uses this new ring. The MagSafe ring also allows NFC interaction with other supported devices. Apple has used the Ceramic Shield which claims to be stronger than any smartphone. There is IP68 water and dust resistance in both models.
